Top 5 U.S. Hospitals for Orthopaedics

The top 5 U.S. orthopaedic hospitals for 2016-2017 as ranked by U.S. News and World Report are: Hospital for Special Surgery (NY), Mayo Clinic (MN), Cleveland Clinic (OH), Rush University Medical (IL) and Hospital for Joint Diseases, NYU Langone (NY).

Compared to the 2015-2016 line-up, Rush University supplanted Mass General, which now stands at #8.

At positions 6 through 10 are: Northwestern Memorial (IL), Rothman Institute (PA), Massachusetts General (MA), Johns Hopkins (MD) and UCSF Medical (CA).

Annually, U.S. News ranks hospitals that serve 16 specialties. Orthopaedic rankings are determined mostly by data; listed hospitals had to treat at least 293 Medicare inpatients in 2012, 2013 and 2014.  This year, U.S. News profiled ~1,600 orthopaedic hospitals. (Review their process here.)
