Stryker launched Pivot Guardian, reportedly the industry's first post-free hip distraction system for arthroscopy, designed to mitigate issues that arise from current perineal post and boot technology, such as groin complications and heel slip.
Further, the system increases intra-op range of motion, supports flexibility in C-arm positioning and allows surgeons to consider more bilateral hip scopes.
A study of 1,000 hip arthroscopies performed without the use of a perineal post reportedly found—in every case—that the procedure allows safe, adequate, reproducible access to the hip joint without groin-related soft tissue or nerve complications.
Stryker acquired Pivot Medical in 2014, adding its technologies to Stryker's Sports Medicine unit. Pivot's portfolio addressed access tools, suture management, implants, capsule closure, etc.
