Smith & Nephew commenced U.S. launch of the WEREWOLF™ FLOW 90 Wand with FLOW~IQ™ technology, the latest addition to the WEREWOLF COBLATION line. FLOW 90 was designed for tissue removal in the shoulder, but can be used for all soft tissue types.
FLOW~IQ automatically regulates the saline outflow used with COBLATION energy to optimize performance across all tissue types. It changes the size and intensity of the plasma field based on desired tissue effects, and its VAC mode to rinse the joint and clear debris can be enabled with the push of a button.
As noted in the company’s 3Q18 earnings report, launch of this new 90 degree wand will allow Smith & Nephew to leverage the WEREWOLF COBLATION system for shoulder repair.
COBLATION has been shown to deliver faster patient recovery and better long-term patient outcomes vs. mechanical debridement in the knee, according to a level 1 randomized controlled trial carried out over 10 years. COBLATION creates and applies an energy field called glow discharge plasma, which acts to ablate molecules in the tissue. It operates at lower temperatures than other radio frequency-based technologies and supports precise removal of soft tissue with minimal damage to adjacent tissue.
