Pre-clinical study results demonstrated that BONESUPPORT’s CERAMENT™, loaded with recombinant human bone morphogenic protein 2 (rhBMP-2) + zoledronic acid (ZA) in very low doses, was able to quantitatively/qualitatively generate a high amount of mineralized bone volume. Further, the study showed In vivo that mineralized volume was significantly higher when CERAMENT was combined with rhBMP-2 and ZA vs. CERAMENT + rhBMP-2 alone.
Per study authors, these results suggest the possibility to develop a single-stage method to deliver a combination of rhBMP-2 and ZA at the site where significant new bone formation is needed. This supports the properties of CERAMENT as a drug-eluting material that have been shown in clinical practice with antibiotic-containing CERAMENT G and V.
