Merete announced the passing of its founder Emmanuel Anapliotis, a pioneer of the orthopedic industry in Germany.
Mr. Anapliotis was born in 1940 and began his orthopedic career with the founding of Mecron Med. Produkte GmbH Berlin. The company produced several products during the 1970s and 1980s, including duo-head bipolar hip endoprostheses, spherical screw cups, MecroSet modular resection prostheses, Mecron cannulated screws and Mecron knee braces.
Mr. Anapliotis went on to found Merete Medical in 1996. Merete focuses mainly on hip replacement and the foot and ankle space. The company expanded into the U.S. in 2006, and currently has operations in 33 countries. Also seeing a need for quality contract manufacturing, Mr. Anapliotis founded Aristotech Industries in 2006. The contract manufacturer focuses on forgings and precision machining and is based in Germany.
Alexia Anapliotis, Mr. Anapliotis’ daughter, took the helm of Merete in 2015. Mr. Anapliotis remained active in the company as Chairman. We were fortunate to know him as a longtime ORTHOWORLD Member.
Mrs. Anapliotis informed us of her father’s passing, saying, “Today, the world has lost a visionary: an entrepreneurial genius, a generous man to many, and an all-round incredible and respectful man.”
