Medtronic Launches TiONIC 3D Printed Titanium for Spine Implants

By Julie A. Vetalice

Medtronic launched TiONIC™ 3D-printed titanium technology to support complex designs and integrated surface technologies for spine surgery implants.

Company leadership alluded to launch of such a technology in the earnings call from November 2017, noting that “there is a lot more research that needs to be done on the impact of surface technologies.”

The recently-launched ARTiC-L™ device for transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion is the first to be manufactured with the TiONIC laser-based technique. ARTiC-L is inserted and positioned using just one instrument and offers lordotic angles up to 20 degrees.
