Medtronic commenced U.S. launch of Spine Essentials™, implants and instruments designed to lend efficiency to the most common cervical fusion procedures and to support hospital systems' ability to manage costs and time required for instrument sterilization, case set-up and inventory management.
Spine Essentials implant sets include the most commonly-used implant sizes for 1- and 2-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, and are sterile-packaged with smaller instrument sets to reduce inventory. Compared to full-sized configurations, this platform is intended to yield sterilization of:
- ~44% fewer instruments
- 91% fewer items
- 67% fewer cases
The system was launched at the Ambulatory Surgical Center Association annual meeting. Other systems developed for appeal to outpatient settings include the Vital 5 ReLeaf Catheter, for improved pain scores and reduced post-op narcotic use following orthopaedic and spinal surgeries, and Wenzel Spine's VariLift-LX, designed to support migration of fusion cases to an outpatient setting.
