KB Medical received approval under the CE Mark for its AQrate™ Robotic Assistance system, indicated for use in general spinal surgery.
AQrate comprises hardware and software to support intra-op haptic steering. Of interest, the announcement describes the platform as having “the accuracy required for brain surgery, the reach to address full spinal surgery and the strength necessary for orthopedic applications: from head to toe, all with one device.”
The company is pursuing FDA clearance of AQrate as well as strategic partnerships to integrate imaging, navigation, instruments and implants.
Thus KB Medical joins the lineup of companies providing surgical robotic assistance in spine: Medtech’s ROSA, Mazor Robotics’ Renaissance and to come, Globus Medical from its acquisition of Excelsius Surgical. Could it be taking on Mako and Navio, as well?
