JRI Orthopaedics acquired Sheffield Medical Products, designer of the AEON cemented total hip.
Previously, JRI served as exclusive distributor for the AEON system and, for the past 18 months, was also subcontracted to manufacture certain of its instruments and implants. JRI will now offer the system under the brand name Avanteon.
First AEON hips were implanted in 2011. Since then, ~700 patients have received the device, primarily in Sheffield, U.K. AEON is reportedly the first hip replacement to enter the Beyond Compliance regulatory requirements initiative, which is associated with close postmarket follow-up.
