Inspired Spine achieved the milestone of completion of 1,000 Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OLLIF) procedures. This is an increase from 500 procedures completed in 2Q17.
OLLIF is designed to reduce patient recovery time and minimize blood loss compared to traditional fusion, in a procedure lasting as little as 30 minutes. It requires no muscle detachment to access the disc space. Many patients are ambulatory within two hours post-op and are often discharged the same day. No deep infections have occurred during the first 1,000 procedures.
The company has published seven peer-reviewed studies (five of which are related to the OLLIF procedure). One demonstrated that, due to reduced surgical time and shorter required hospital stay, OLLIF has saved hospitals an average of USD $9,500 per case while improving patient outcomes.
Inspired Spine has developed two derivative lumbar fusion techniques from the OLLIF approach: MIS-DLIF and MIS-DTIF. MIS-DLIF is intended to allow minimally invasive lumbar fusion to be successfully performed at L5-S1, overcoming the obstacles presented by the ala of the sacrum and the iliac crest. MIS-DTIF is designed to allow minimally invasive fusion of thoracic spinal levels, eliminating the risks associated with traditional thoracic approaches.
