Insight Medical to Launch Augmented Reality Navigation in 2019

By Julie A. Vetalice

Insight Medical Systems plans a 2019 launch for ARVIS™, augmented reality navigation for application in spinal fusion, joint reconstruction and the repair of anterior cruciate ligaments.

ARVIS, an alternative to large and more costly surgical robots and navigation systems, features a headset that projects virtual models of the patient’s anatomy into the surgeon’s field of view during the procedure, revealing structures beneath the surface. The visualization includes models of implants and instruments in relation to interior anatomy, with a display of measurements associated with orientation and positioning.

Insight Medical Systems was highlighted in the January issue of ORTHOKNOW® among other first-time exhibitors at AAOS 2018, which featured numerous companies developing non-device innovations.
