icotec launched the brand name of BlackArmor® for its Carbon/PEEK material, which has been used in spinal and fracture repair for 15 years in 20,000 implantations.
BlackArmor combines high strength carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK and a composite flow moulding process to yield an interwoven 3D fiber architecture for strength and durability, suitable for complex designs such as pedicle screws, vertebral body replacements, anatomical bone plates, etc. Non-metallic properties make BlackArmor suitable for the treatment of spinal tumors, or in patients for whom metal allergies are a potential concern.
Orthopaedic implants manufactured from BlackArmor Carbon/PEEK material were approved under the CE Mark in 2000 and received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2005.
