By Julie A. Vetalice

Globus Medical announced completion of the first spine surgeries using the ExcelsiusGPS™ robotic guidance and navigation system. Initial revenues from system sales are expected within 4Q17.

ExcelsiusGPS supports minimally invasive and open screw placement procedures, is used with Globus Medical implants and instruments and is compatible with pre-op CT, intra-op CT and fluoroscopic imaging. The system is designed to minimize radiation exposure, streamline workflow and reproducibly assist in implant placement.

The announcement is one of multiple milestones achieved in recent months for surgical assistance tools used in multiple market segments.
