nView medical announced the first surgical use of insta-3D™ imaging, designed to make 3D images available for pediatric procedures in the O.R. quickly and safely.
Of note, the facility at which the procedure was performed is a 2019 Winner of the National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation (NCC-PDI) competition, “Make Your Medical Device Pitch for Kids!” NCC-PDI is one of five members in FDA’s Pediatric Device Consortia Grant Program, created to support development and commercialization of medical devices for children in areas of critical need where innovation can significantly improve children’s health care.
Earlier this year, nView partnered with OrthoGrid Systems to integrate tools that may increase surgical accuracy and O.R. efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
Initially, the companies are executing a proof of concept exercise for a periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), to be followed by expansion to additional musculoskeletal procedures. PAO preserves the hip joint by repositioning the native acetabulum in an effort to reduce the risk of a future total hip replacement.
