Ethicon’s Skin Closure in Knee Replacement Study

By Julie A. Vetalice

Total knee replacement patients and surgeons reported greater satisfaction with Ethicon's DERMABOND PRINEO Skin Closure System for surgical incisions vs. traditional skin staples.

Results from a double-blinded quantitative study of 88 total knee replacement patients and 83 orthopaedic surgeons indicated more patient satisfaction with cosmetic results (80% vs. 71%), and lower concern about post-op care (55% vs. 63%) and complications (56% vs. 60%). Overall patient satisfaction favored DERMABOND PRINEO vs. staples, as well (88.2% vs. 81.8%), as did overall surgeon satisfaction (83.7% vs. 56.1%).

Ethicon offers a wide portfolio of skin closure systems for various incision lengths and closure strength needs, including a new configuration for longer incisions to address hip, knee and spine procedures.
