DePuy Synthes Mitek Sports Medicine commenced limited U.S. launch of DYNACORD Suture to repair soft tissue, including the rotator cuff. Full launch is slated for 3Q18.
DYNACORD is designed to respond to changes in repair tension that occur over time. The suture shortens when tension is lost to maintain approximation throughout the healing period.
The device comprises two outer sheaths of braided fibers and a core made of silicone and salt, which helps to maintain a stable repair. The salt particles dissolve in the body, leaving a porous structure within the silicone. The pores fill with fluid as the core hydrates, which causes the braided sheath to expand outward and the suture to shorten. This happens if the repair loses tension.
DYNACORD Suture is available on HEALIX ADVANCE Anchors, which have been on the market since 2013.
