Bioretec acquired Austria-based BRI.Tech, developer of a patented novel biocompatible and bioresorbable metal composition. Human clinical study of products made from this composition is underway. In development and pre-clinical phases, the composition was shown to have superior material properties over first-generation bioresorbable metal compositions.
Bioretec, located in Finland, markets the Activa line of poly-L-lactide-co-glycolide-based bioresorbable and bioactive pins, nails and screws for orthopedic and trauma applications. The company is developing projects that include fiber-reinforced biopolymer composite materials, and this transaction will add another material option to its portfolio.
