aap Gains Approval for Study of Silver Coating Technology

aap Implantate received approval from the ethics commissions to conduct a human clinical study in Germany for its antibacterial silver coating technology.

In light of effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the company and clinics, the study start date has yet to be determined, though aap will continue with its preparations.

aap's antibacterial silver coating technology has applications in trauma devices and other areas inside and outside of orthopedics, such as dentistry or for medical instruments, for the reduction of surgical site infections.

The company gained funding in support of the study in 2018 and again in 2019. aap is also developing resorbable magnesium implants. The silver coating and magnesium technologies may help to lower healthcare expenses by reducing infection risks and obviating the need for a second procedure to remove implants, respectively.
