This month’s chart looks at the 10-year OUS hip sales history for the three largest players in the space: Zimmer Biomet, Stryker, and DePuy Synthes.
These three companies account for 62% of worldwide hip replacement sales, while all other competitors in the space have single-digit share.
Outside the U.S., lagging hip replacement growth from Zimmer Biomet and DePuy Synthes have given Stryker a prime opportunity to pick up market share.
From 2016 to 2025, Zimmer Biomet’s OUS hip replacement sales have a CAGR of 1.4%. It has accelerated modestly since 2021, with a CAGR of 1.7%. The trend is worse for DePuy Synthes, which has a CAGR of 0.6% since 2016 and -0.3% since 2021.
For comparison, Stryker’s OUS hip CAGR since 2016 is 4.7%. It accelerated meaningfully since 2021 to 8.8%. It claimed the number two market share position outside the U.S. from DePuy Synthes in 2024, driven in part by its acquisition of SERF.
Put another way, Zimmer Biomet’s OUS hip replacement sales were 84% greater than Stryker’s in 2016. By the end of 2025, that lead had shrunk to 37%.
