206 Ortho was issued U.S. Patent No. 10,010,609, Method and Apparatus for Treating Bone Fractures, and/or for Fortifying and/or Augmenting Bone, Including the Provision and Use of Composite Implants.
206 Ortho has developed a bio-inspired non-metallic composite and implants intended to fix broken bones without the need for removal surgery. The high-strength biodegradable material is made of fibers composed of minerals naturally found in the body and bound by a biodegradable polymer. It is intended to repair load-bearing bone and resorb completely, and is already in use in orthopaedic implants and sutures.
The company is pursuing additional funding and potential commercialization partners.
