Ethicon and DePuy Synthes commenced U.S. launch of wound closure kits customized for orthopaedic surgery, including STRATAFIX™ Knotless Tissue Control Devices and the DERMABOND® PRINEO® Skin Closure System.
The kits are designed to provide standardization and promote O.R. efficiency, enabling surgeons to choose which sutures they would like by each layer of closure, and are assembled and supplied by Medical Action Industries, an Owens & Minor Company that manufactures procedure-based kits and trays.
DERMABOND PRINEO has been shown in vitro to provide a microbial barrier for protection against organisms commonly responsible for surgical site infections, and STRATAFIX sutures include Ethicon Plus antibacterial triclosan coating.
In a similar vein, Smith & Nephew (SNN) offers the eCap/Episode of Care Assurance Program, an initiative designed to mitigate risk associated with readmissions. eCAP pairs all SNN primary total hip and knee reconstructive systems with PICO negative pressure wound therapy and ACTICOAT antimicrobial barrier dressing. If a patient is readmitted within 90 days post-op for a surgical site infection or for implant revision due to product failure, SNN pays a hospital’s unreimbursed costs for the readmission up to the purchase prices of the implant, PICO and ACTICOAT.
