Smith+Nephew announced publication of new clinical evidence further validating the performance of its proprietary OXINIUM Oxidized Zirconium on highly cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) for total hip replacement. Study results indicate that procedures using OXINIUM on XLPE were associated with the lowest risk of revision of all bearing combinations for any reason beyond 10 years.

The new analysis corroborates a similar report from the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry and publications referencing the Italian Registry and the Dutch Arthroplasty Register, confirming the positive effect that modern bearing surface combinations like OXINIUM on XLPE have on total hip procedure survival.
