Zimmer Biomet marked completion of the first surgical case with the Persona® Trabecular Metal™ (TM) Tibia. Limited launch of the device is slated for 1H18, with full launch scheduled for 2H18.
The device received FDA 510(k) clearance in 1Q18 and approval under the CE Mark in 2Q18. Alongside the Persona TM Femur and TM Patella, the tibial design rounds out the company’s fully cementless total knee offering. As noted in the company’s year-end call, the Persona revision knee will enter limited launch during the year as well.
Trabecular Metal is a porous biomaterial made from Tantalum with properties similar to cancellous bone. It’s been used in >2MM orthopaedic devices and is backed by >20 years of clinical results.
