Zimmer Biomet (ZBH) acquired Clinical Graphics, a Netherlands-based imaging company specializing in 3D range-of-motion simulation technology for hip conditions requiring early intervention, such as femoroacetabular impingement and dysplasia. The line will complement the ZBH hip preservation portfolio.
Clinical Graphics was spun from the Delft University of Technology in 2010. Its analysis reports offer an interactive, 360 degree dynamic view of the joint.
In 1Q14, Stryker entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Pivot Medical, a developer of hip arthroscopy procedures to treat femoroacetabular impingement syndrome.
Within that same quarter, Smith & Nephew announced its DYONICS™ PLAN Hip Impingement Planning System, 3D software that generates a comprehensive pre-op surgical report for each femoroacetabular impingement surgical procedure.
In 4Q15, Materialise received FDA 510(k) clearance for the Acetabular Cup Orientation System, including 3D printed patient-specific surgical guides and planning software to support accurate cup orientation for primary total hip arthroplasty. Accurate cup orientation helps to reduce dislocation rate and impingement, and prevent accelerated wear and early implant failure.
