WishBone Medical acquired Response Ortho, a device company featuring in-house manufacturing of external and internal fixation and deformity correction products for the pediatric orthopaedic market.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
This transaction, along with the acquisition of Red Star Contract Manufacturing earlier this month, is the latest example of WishBone’s strategic initiative to rely less on outsourcing for the manufacture of its pediatric-specific implants and instruments. WishBone provides its products in sterile-packed, single-use disposable kits. The company’s categories for product development include deformity correction, sports medicine, foot/ankle fractures, spine, biomaterials and single-use instruments.
Response Ortho offers 30 developed pediatric orthopaedic systems—including the Smart Correction® computer-assisted deformity treatment system and Click2Correct® surgical preoperative planning software—and multiple patents. The company also manufactures locking plates and intramedullary nails for lower and upper extremities applications.
Response Ortho has a global customer base and is located in Istanbul, Turkey, allowing WishBone to expand into the ex-U.S. market.
“With the acquisition of Response Ortho, we are thrilled about our pediatric orthopedic product offerings,” WishBone Chairman and CEO Nick Deeter commented in a prepared statement. “The combination of Response Ortho’s 30 product systems and WishBone’s eight product systems will give WishBone the broadest product portfolio in pediatric orthopaedics, worldwide. These products can be delivered in sterile-packed, procedural kits anywhere in the world, next day, to the surgeons who care for children.”
Sehmuz Isin, CEO of Response Ortho, said, “We are excited that Response Ortho is now part of WishBone Medical. Our primary focus has been outside the U.S., and we will now be able to offer these innovative orthopaedic product systems everywhere. Having more than 50 years of combined experience, [Mr. Deeter] and I understand the unmet needs and will provide global solutions to children with orthopedic issues.”
