Treace Medical Concepts announced additional positive clinical data supporting the Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction™ procedure.
The 195-patient study evaluated bone healing with an accelerated weightbearing protocol following 3-plane Lapidus fusion of the tarsometatarsal joint, or great toe/MTP joint fusion with biplanar plating fixation, the construct used in Lapiplasty. At a mean follow up of 9.5 months, results indicated that:
- 19.5% of patients had comorbidities known to compromise bone healing (e.g. tobacco use, controlled diabetes)
- Patients were allowed to begin weightbearing at approximately five days post-op
- 97.4% of the patients demonstrated a successful bony fusion, and 98.9% maintained a stable joint position over the course of the study
Further, implant removal rate was 3.1% compared with conventional plate implants, where removal rates can reach 17% for tarsometatarsal and 20% for MTP joint fusions.
