Study results suggest that use of K2M’s MESA Rail™ Deformity Spinal System may yield significantly better major curve correction than standard circular rod constructs in the treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.
The MESA Rail beam-like rod design is intended to provide enhanced rigidity to aid in the restoration of sagittal balance while maintaining a low profile.
Results showed that major curve correction was significantly better in the beam-like rod group, at 66%, vs. circular rods (CR) at 57%. Further, the MESA Rail cohort showed shorter operative times, less blood loss and shorter hospital stay vs. CR. Both groups showed a slight decrease in thoracic kyphosis.
K2M debuted Rail 4D™ Technology in 2012 as an alternative to traditional round spinal rods.
