Smith & Nephew closed its acquisition of Ceterix Orthopaedics, developer of NovoStitch® Pro Meniscal Repair used in the arthroscopic treatment of horizontal, radial, complex, bucket handle and root tears, as well as vertical tears. NovoStitch complements SNN’s FAST-FIX 360 Meniscal Repair system.
The company cites figures that estimate surgical treatment of more than 1.2 million meniscal tears in the U.S. each year, with only 15% to 20% of those receiving a meniscal repair vs. removal. With NovoStitch Pro and FAST-FIX 360, SNN sees the opportunity to advance this proportion to 30% to 40% in the medium term.
