Smith+Nephew announced limited launch and completion of the first surgeries with the new JOURNEY™ II Unicompartmental Knee (UK) system. The global commercial release is slated to begin in early 2020.
JOURNEY II UK is based on the technology used in the JOURNEY II Total Knee to impart a natural feel for patients undergoing partial knee replacement. The system is designed to provide faster recovery, improved functionality, and higher patient satisfaction than other unicompartmental designs by offering both an increased size range and lateral specific implant to maintain the shape, position, and motion of a normal knee joint.
JOURNEY II UK can be used with NAVIO™ Handheld Robotics and VISIONAIRE™ Patient Matched Instrumentation for a comprehensive approach to partial knee replacement.
The system joins the company’s ZUK uni knee, for which the company acquired U.S. rights and assets from Zimmer in 2015.
