Simplify Medical closed an additional US $23.3MM in the second tranche of a Series B financing, for a total $44.3MM raised. Funds will support ex-U.S. commercialization and U.S. clinical trials studying the Simplify® cervical disc.
Ongoing studies include:
- a two-level, prospective pivotal trial of up to 200 patients at up to 18 centers comparing the device to cervical fusion
- a pivotal trial comparing one-level cervical implantation of the device with one-level cervical fusion
The initial raise of $21MM in this Series B occurred in July 2017 with the same investor group, led by LSP Health Economics Fund 2.
The PEEK-on-ceramic Simplify device is designed to be viewed on MRI, thus reducing patient radiation exposure, and its low profile accommodates smaller disc spaces such as in female and certain regional populations.
