Healthcare tech company PeerWell has launched PreHab to ReHab, a pre- and post-op program for patients who undergo hip or knee replacement in outpatient centers.
The pre-op prep program is intended to help expand the types of patients that surgeons can indicate for outpatient surgery by getting patients ready holistically: mentally and physically, encouraging healthful habits and teaching them how to prepare for same-day discharge. The program will also provide healthcare staff with weekly reporting data about patient progress and risk before surgery.
PeerWell’s inpatient PreHab program has reportedly reduced inpatient length of stay by 45%, and its “graduates” have been discharged straight home (vs. post-op care) 77% more frequently after surgery than the U.S. national average.
The company cites a prediction of 50% or more of hip and knee cases occurring in outpatient settings over the next 10 years.
PeerWell’s system joins the latest in patient engagement tools, like Claris Reflex, Consensus’ TracPatch and JNJ’s Health Partner.
