NuVasive announced the first surgery performed with its PRECICE STRYDE™ limb lengthening system from NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics™ (NSO). PRECICE STRYDE received FDA 510(k) clearance in April for use in the tibia and femur.
The limb lengthening system includes an implantable intramedullary nail, locking screws, reusable instruments and a hand-held External Remote Controller that allows patients to non-invasively lengthen or shorten the implant from their own home versus a hospital stay.
PRECICE STRYDE’s stainless steel composition allows patients to apply up to 150 to 250 pounds of weight on each leg. Prior technologies limited patients to applying 30 to 50 pounds of weight on each leg.
NSO plans a limited launch of PRECICE STRYDE in mid-2018 and broader availability in 2019.
