MicroPort Orthopedics (MPO) launched the Procotyl® Prime acetabular cup, the next step in the evolution of the Dynasty® Acetabular Cup System.
The device, which received FDA 510(k) clearance at the end of 2Q17, features titanium alloy BIOFOAM®-coated shells with highly-crosslinked polyethylene liners. The system includes versatile instrumentation to support soft-tissue-sparing and a variety of other surgical approaches.
After a quiet 2016 without much coverage, MPO has reappeared in 2017 with launch of its FDA-cleared EVOLUTION® Revision Tibial System and results from study of its Medial Pivot Knee—which demonstrated 95.0% satisfaction and 98.8% survivorship at 17 years, with patients reporting high stability and comfort during regular activity.
Also, in mid-2017, the company launched “Research on a Minimal Invasive, High Efficiency Orthopedic Robotic System” in Shanghai. The four-year project combines the efforts of MPO with various hospitals, universities and a device testing institute to support what could be the development of China’s first orthopaedic robotic system.
