
Nanovis, a developer and provider of nano surface technology designed to improve the biologic fixation of orthopedic, spine and dental implants, announced that certain of its nano surface technology assets and certain of its rights to intellectual property assets related to Sites Medical’s OsteoSync titanium pads, have been acquired by Medtronic for use in the development of Medtronic’s next-generation PEEK interbody fusion devices.
The FDA-designated bone-growth nanotechnology has been shown to improve the speed and consistency of the human bone-growth response. It enhances implant fixation through osseointegration, the process in which bone grows and fuses with the surface of a spinal implant.
“We are excited about our collaboration with Medtronic,” said Brian More, CEO of Nanovis. “Combining our market-leading nano surface technology with Medtronic’s market-leading PEEK implant designs will give a growing number of surgeons access to best-in-class devices to treat patients.”
Nanovis was the first to market with an FDA nanotechnology designation on an enhanced PEEK interbody which includes porous titanium endplates made from OsteoSync provided by Sites Medical, and the first to market with an FDA nanotechnology designation on pedicle screws.
