Mazor Robotics unveiled the Mazor X guidance platform for spine surgery, combining analytics, multiple-source data, precision guidance, optical tracking, intra-op verification and connectivity technologies.
This operational milestone triggers the second tranche of equity investment by Medtronic (MDT) in Mazor. MDT has placed a purchase order for 15 Mazor X systems.
While certain aspects are pending FDA clearance, the three primary features of Mazor X include:
- Pre-Operative Analytics: software-based tools to assess alignment and implement full surgical planning, facilitating a total patient treatment strategy
- Intra-Operative Guidance: employs a bed-attached, bone-mounted surgical arm to guide surgical tools and implants per analytic information
- Real-Time 3D Verification: to confirm execution and reconciliation of the surgical plan, using proprietary 2D fluoroscopy-based technology, visual tracking or intraoperative imaging
The system will launch commercially during the North American Spine Society (NASS) annual meeting.
