Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) Medical Devices, parent company to DePuy Synthes, announced CareAdvantage and Orthopaedic Episode of Care Approach services for health systems.
CareAdvantage is available immediately in the U.S., and will roll out globally in phases. The Orthopaedic Episode of Care Approach is included under CareAdvantage. Both are offered by JNJ Healthcare Systems.
The CareAdvantage process identifies the customer/health system’s needs and objectives pertaining to the delivery of value-based care. This feeds into an action plan that includes metrics to measure results.
Elements of this initiative include the use of digital care navigation (based on CareSense software to collect and analyze real-time data), Episode Performance Improvement (supported by an alliance with Value Stream Partners), initiatives in hip fracture care, procedure standardization and the management of infection risk. Patient engagement programs include PATIENT ATHLETE™ and patient ambassadors (actual patients helping other patients). Finally, Operational Efficiency measures will address supply chain optimization and the streamlining of device movement through surgical services and sterile processing.
The Orthopaedic Episode of Care Approach includes a Shared Performance Agreement option, designed to help reduce average episodic hip and knee implant patient costs. Specifically, this applies elements of digital care navigation and PATIENT ATHLETE engagement, and will cover a portion of targeted savings if metrics are not achieved. The Shared Performance Agreement is contracted through JNJ Healthcare Systems or DePuy Synthes Sales.
Other care-focused services offered by the top five orthopaedic device companies include Medtronic Orthopedic Solutions, Smith & Nephew’s eCap/Episode of Care Assurance Program, Stryker Performance Solutions’ JointCOACH and Episode Performance Manager and Zimmer Biomet’s Signature Solutions, summarized in ORTHOKNOW® December 2016.
