Commercial insurance carrier, Highmark, issued a medical coverage policy, “Interspinous and Interlaminar Stabilization/Distraction Devices (Spacers),” which covers only the coflex® device from Paradigm Spine and excludes all other interspinous distraction or interlaminar stabilization devices from coverage. Highmark is the first commercial carrier to provide exclusive coverage for coflex.
coflex is a non-fusion, motion-preserving stabilization implant that is FDA PMA-approved to treat lumbar spinal stenosis, and can be used with a decompression or instead of spinal fusion.
Highmark covers 5 million members in Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. This policy adds to the 5.5 million lives already covered for coflex in these states.
