Gramercy Extremity Orthopedics (GEO) was awarded U.S. Patent No. 10,058,362 covering a novel approach for Variable Angle Locking Technology. The patent provides various methods to leverage the strength of machined threads in plates and screws by using inserts that allow the screw to be fixed in various angles and orientations.
Like a standard plate hole, the insert contains machined threads, allowing a standard locking screw to be inserted at the desired orientation. The screw can also be removed, the insert re-oriented and the screw replaced as desired.
The technology is available on GEO CART™, a mobile, computerized point-of-sale implant and instrumentation inventory system that employs RFID technology to create efficiencies, e.g., reduce surgical delays, decrease sterility risks and automatically generate an Implant Usage Form to simplify facility operations. GEO CART can hold >2,000 items.
