Globus Medical (GMED) completed its first orthopaedic trauma case using the ANTHEMâ„¢ Distal Radius Fracture system.
ANTHEM features anatomically-contoured plates with a positioning slot and screw design that support fine-tuning in multiple directions, for use throughout the body. GMED will introduce the system at the 2017 Orthopaedic Trauma Association meeting in October.
Globus leadership started to include discussions of the trauma market in their 3Q15 earnings call, estimating that investments in emerging technologies—that is, robotics, orthopaedic trauma and other adjacencies—could represent an ~$10BB addressable market by 2020, and could account for up to 15% of overall GMED sales by that year.
The ANTHEM fracture system and CAPTIVATE compression screws received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2Q17. We believe that Globus may have two more trauma products under review with FDA, presently.
