Performance highlights:
DJO leadership did not go into deep detail to explain orthopaedic implant revenue growth, for 2Q17, other than to say that strong double-digit increases in knee, hip and shoulder derived from products launched in 2015 through 2017 to-date, as well as entry into new accounts. Full launch of the AltiVate anatomic shoulder is now underway—following its initial launch at AAOS in March. Sales in this segment also include elbow reconstruction.
DJO expects that this segment will remain a significant growth driver for the long term. In May, the company hired Mr. Jeff McCaulley as President of the DJO Surgical division, which is based in Texas and encompasses joint recon sales. Mr. McCaulley brings along seven years of experience as the President of Zimmer’s Global Reconstructive division, ending in 2014 for a switch to helm Smiths Medical.
During the quarter, DJO announced an agreement with IPG on delivery of its range of hip, knee and shoulder products to IPG’s health plan clients and patients. IPG provides Device Benefit Management programs and seeks to unify surgeons, facilities and device manufacturers in their approaches to cost-efficiency measures.
