Catalyst OrthoScience introduced the patent-pending 3-Peg Glenoid implant, to be used with the Catalyst CSR™ Shoulder.
Designed as an alternative to the 2-peg device, the implant utilizes a backside anchoring element design for immediate interference fit fixation in the strongest regions of the glenoid.
It also is equipped with tapered walls on the bearing surface to reduce the effects of eccentric loading, which can contribute to implant loosening.
The Catalyst CSR Shoulder is designed to replicate the shape of a normal shoulder more closely than currently-available devices. CSR is also reportedly smaller and requires less bone removal than current procedures for joint replacement. The system received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2Q16.
