Biorez closed a US $1.5MM C-1 financing led by Connecticut Innovations, with participation from LaunchCapital, The Vertical Group and New York Angels. The company is on track for 2019 launch of a human clinical study with a novel implant for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, following positive results from animal testing.
The Biorez approach employs a scaffold on which a patient’s own cells may grow a new ligament before the implant is fully resorbed by the body. This may obviate the need to harvest a patient’s tendon to perform reconstruction.
Success in ACL reconstruction could lead to interest in new musculoskeletal applications, as well.
Biorez will share detailed preclinical results in private meetings with partners, surgeons and researchers this week.
