Band-LOK was allowed two U.S. patents on its proprietary Tether Clamp and Implantation System, a stabilizing bone anchor for use in orthopaedic procedures. The system, shown below, comprises a housing, locking element and band.
Band-LOK was granted a U.S. patent for the technology in 4Q15. The band passage device is designed to address a range of complex spinal pathologies for adults and children and, while initial spine surgeries were completed with the system in 3Q16, the company is pursuing orthopaedic applications and licensing agreements beyond the spine segment.
The technology was co-developed with Kapstone Medical, an engineering firm that offers product development, IP protection, regulatory, quality assurance and supply chain management and other services to physician inventors, entrepreneurs and manufacturers.
