Acumed is acquiring ExsoMed, a provider of solutions for hand surgery. The transaction enhances Acumed’s portfolio of upper extremity solutions to treat simple to complex injuries.
Acumed’s selection of upper extremity fixation and specialty plates are now complemented by ExsoMed’s threaded nails, which offer minimally invasive solutions to treat fractures, fusions and late-stage arthritic conditions.
ExsoMed products include:
INnate™ – ExsoMed’s solution for treating metacarpal fractures. INnate is an intramedullary threaded nail designed to provide surgeons with a solution for treating metacarpal fractures through a minimally invasive approach.
InFrame™ – Designed specifically for phalanx fractures, providing surgeons with a solution through a minimally invasive approach. The length offering of InFrame is intended to accurately fit the intramedullary canal and achieve bicortical bone purchase, creating stable fixation and precise reduction for all types of phalanx fractures.
ArrowPhix™ – ExsoMed’s arrow-shaped screw for functional variable angle DIP fusions. The related ArcPhix™ is an angled screw for strong, functional angle DIP fusions. Research has shown that when a patient’s distal interphalangeal joint is fused in a functional position, finger dexterity and grip strength improve over that of a patient with a straight, strength fusion.
“Patients, surgeons, and innovation have been the key drivers in all of ExsoMed’s business decisions,” said James Young Kim, Chief Marketing Officer for ExsoMed. “We are grateful for the opportunity to expand ExsoMed’s technologies utilizing Acumed’s vast resources and continuing to raise the standard of care in hand surgery.”
“We are thrilled by the addition of ExsoMed to the extensive Acumed portfolio of innovative upper extremity, lower extremity, CMF, tendon, ligament and orthobiologics solutions to better serve our customers worldwide,” said Hjalmar Pompe van Meerdervoort, President of Acumed.
“Demand for minimally invasive surgical devices continues to grow and the ExsoMed products are great additions to our minimally invasive offerings,” said Milton Torres, VP of Hand and Upper Extremity at Acumed. “ExsoMed’s innovative products are a natural fit for Acumed’s extensive portfolio of industry-first hand and wrist solutions. These products are designed to provide surgeons with in situ customization options to achieve optimal patient fit and restoration of function.”
