Active Implants announced the first meniscus replacement in the SUN (Safety Using NUsurface®) clinical trial, with the NUsurface® Meniscus Implant, an investigational treatment for patients with persistent knee pain following medial meniscus surgery.
The procedure was performed at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, one of 10 U.S. sites enrolling patients in the trial, designed to assess the safety and effectiveness of the NUsurface in restoring meniscus function.
The SUN study, initiated in 1Q16, will enroll ~120 patients for FDA approval. Clinical trials are also underway in Europe and Israel.
