Orthopedic Funding Announcements Through April
Our chart of the month shows orthopedic funding announcements we’ve tracked over a ten year period. For our chart, we’ve limited to those announced in the first four months of the year.
During that span, we tracked an average of 11 announcements totaling about $220 million from January through April.
Based on our data, 2025 is tied with the COVID year of 2020 for the slowest start in the last decade. The six funding announcements we’ve tracked generated a total of $122.7 million, the third-lowest amount over the last 10 years.
From 2016 through 2024, the first four months saw an average of 34% of the announcements and 39% of the dollars invested for the year. Using those averages, 2025 projects to have 18 announcements for $318.5 million. Those would be lowest and second-lowest respective totals in the last decade.
So far in 2025, we’ve seen three notable investments:
- Shoulder Innovations received $40 million to support commercialization of the InSet Total Shoulder and Reverse system.
- restor3d secured $38 million to support continued growth and the launch of four 3D-printed product lines in 2025 and 2026.
- Voom Medical closed $30 million to support the continued development of its expanding MIS portfolio for next-generation surgical technologies and techniques.
