Spinal Elements’ technologies, including Ti-Bond® porous titanium coating, Hero allograft and recent launches of the Lucent® XP expandable cage and the Clutch interspinous process device, will complement Amendia’s Overwatch pedicle screw, Syzygy reduction screw and Ceres cervical product lines.
Formed in 2003 and originally known as Quantum Orthopedics, Spinal Elements received FDA 510(k) clearance for the PEEK-based Lucent Vertebral Body Replacement device in 3Q05. Next products included the Mosaic cervical implant, the first Mercury system and the Zyre facet implant. In 2012, the company launched Hero Allograft, donating net proceeds from sales to childrens’ charities. In 3Q16, Spinal Elements marked the milestone of >10,000 Ti-Bond interbody devices implanted and announced a one-year warranty for Ti-Bond devices.
The transaction puts Amendia back in acquisition mode. In 2015, the company purchased Custom Spine, SpineSelect and Baxano’s iO-Flex and iO-Tome assets. The Syzygy Stabilization System for spondylolisthesis reduction is Amendia’s most recent product launch, occurring in late 3Q16.
