Merit Medical Systems, manufacturer of proprietary disposable devices used primarily in cardiology, radiology and endoscopy, acquired DFINE in a merger transaction for ~US $97.5MM in cash.
DFINE’s products, which are FDA-cleared and approved under the CE Mark, support vertebral augmentation (kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty), as well as radiofrequency ablation of metastatic spinal tumors. For 2015, the company posted revenues of $33.4MM (75% U.S., 25% ex-U.S.).
Merit intends to create a new interventional oncology and spine division.
In early 2013, DFINE had launched StabiliT® ERX Bone Cement for use with the StabiliT® Vertebral Augmentation System for the repair of vertebral compression fractures resulting from instability. Within the same month, the company also announced a 3-year exclusive agreement with Biomet for distribution of StabiliTin Spain and Portugal.
