Continuing to broaden its Real Intelligence brand of enabling technology solutions, Smith+Nephew (SNN) launched RI.HIP NAVIGATION for total hip arthroplasty (THA). The technology is designed to help maximize accuracy and reproducibility by delivering patient-specific component alignment.
RI.HIP NAVIGATION has received FDA 510(k) clearance and CE Mark approval for THA. It joins the RI.KNEE NAVIGATION system for total knee replacement.
SNN acquired Brainlab’s Orthopaedic Joint Reconstruction business in 2019 to develop new technology for digital surgery. RI.HIP NAVIGATION brings SNN’s POLAR3â„¢ Primary Total Hip System to the Brainlab Kick Navigation platform, which is used in more than 500 hospitals globally.
RI.HIP NAVIGATION helps control individual patient pelvic tilt, leg length and offset measurement. Further, it assists with cup placement by giving a predicted view of the post-op Anterior-Posterior x-ray in surgery.
The technology is suitable for both hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. RI.HIP does not require a CT scan, and is contained within a small footprint.
