Corin received FDA 510(k) clearance to market the Optimized Positioning System (OPS™), reportedly the first FDA-cleared technology to support functional, patient-specific component alignment in total hip replacement.
The technology is designed to optimize orientation of an individual patient’s acetabular component by working functional assessments into the planning phase, with a laser-guided Patient Specific Instrument platform to reproduce the surgical plan during a procedure.
Corin acquired the OPS system in late 2014. Since then, a significant number of procedures have been performed in Australia and the EU.
Company leadership noted that, compared to OPS, conventional acetabular cup placement does not take into account the patient’s individual functional movement and relies instead on guidance for cup positioning as defined ~36 years ago.
In 1Q16, the company partnered with Intellijoint Surgical for Australia distribution of the intellijoint HIP™, to complement the OPS system.
